A YORK schoolgirl has taken a bold step to raise money for a national charity.
Megan Williamson, 14, is a pupil at Archbishops Holgate School, and decided to lose her waist-length hair to help young people with life-changing illnesses.
Megan went with her mother Debra to Zenn salon in David Lloyd gym on Wednesday (APRIL 2), to face the chop.
Debra said: "She came home one day and saying she was going to do it for charity that makes wigs for children who have had cancer treatment or other illnesses - the Little Princess Trust.
"I think they cost about £300 to get a wig made so she was hoping to get to about that mark, but she's almost made £1,000, which is amazing."
Debra said it had taken some getting used to, but Megan was very happy with her new 'pixie cut'.
She said: "I'm very proud of her and for it to be her idea, we were gobsmacked, it's fantastic.
"She's loving her new hairstyle, she's in her element. I was nervous for her as it's a big step for a 14-year-old, but a big part of it is because she knows she's helped people with what she's done."
