ONE of the most prestigious honours in the armed forces has been awarded to three people from the York area in recognition of their outstanding contribution and dedication.

The Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate was presented to Marian Herdson and Sean Hyland from Heworth, York, and Rob Ducat from Tadcaster, by the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Lord Crathorne, at a private ceremony in York.

Rob's citation said he was a long-standing and highly respected reservist, and his role as Quartermaster for 306 Hospital Support Regiment had been critical to the success of the unit’s activity.

"His support to the Reserve Forces is exceptional, often going above and beyond what is expected of him, and setting a highly commendable example for others."

Marian Herdson's citation said she had worked tirelessly over the last ten years as the County Administration Officer for the Yorkshire (North & West) Army Cadet Force, and her diligence and commitment behind the scenes ensured everything ran smoothly.

Sean Hyland's citation said that, as the Company Quartermaster for 4th Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, he regularly performed above and beyond the call of duty, often working unpaid and even involving family members to help out when short-staffed.
