THIS summer's York Food Festival is to celebrate French food just weeks before the Tour de France rolls into town.

Gathering Gastropods will be the first event at this year’s festival from June 20 -29, as foraging expert Diane Hammill of Wild Harvest leads a special Snail Forage trip.

The Yorkshire molluscs will later be prepared by chefs in one of the Festival cookery demonstrations.

The festival's organisers are also inviting restaurants and cafés across the city to get involved by running French menus, themes and events.

Melton’s Too and Brown’s Café have already signed up, and Brown's store manager Sadie Hunter said: “We’re very excited to be part of this year’s Food Festival and will the arrival of Le Tour it’s a great opportunity to get involved and provide a delicious French menu for out customers.”

Daily demonstrations of French gastronomy will run alongside the Festival's regional market, with a appearances fromStephanie Moon, Sarah Danesin, and Andrew Pern.
