A MOTORBIKE passenger has been killed in a crash on a North Yorkshire country road today.

The crash happened at about 4.30pm on the A170 at the junction with Marton Road in Sinnington, between Pickering and Kirkbymoorside. A woman who was a pillion passenger on the Kawasaki bike was taken to hospital, but North Yorkshire Police confirmed tonight that she has died.

The force said a dark-coloured Land Rover Discovery was travelling through Sinnington and turning right into Marton Road when it collided with the Kawasaki as it headed towards Pickering. The man riding the bike was seriously injured and has been taken to Scarborough District Hospital.

The road was closed after the crash as a police investigation began and the damaged vehicles were taken away from the scene, and has not yet been reopened. The ages of the woman who was killed and the injured bike rider, as well as where they are from, have not yet been confirmed.

Anybody who saw the crash or either the Land Rover or the motorbike before it happened should phone North Yorkshire Police's control room on 101 quoting incident number 321 and today's date.
