GREEN bin collections will restart in York next week after being axed over the winter in a cost-cutting move.

City of York Council last year stopped garden waste collections between November and March to save £67,000, as well as introducing charges for residents with more than one green bin.

It had originally considered introducing across-the-board charges, but this was dropped following widespread public opposition.

From Monday, bins will be collected again, with households being sent new stickers to place on lids.

Anybody wanting to have more than one bin collected until October must subscribe to the “additional green bin scheme” for £35 a year and will have 16 collections.
