ONGOING work to improve safety in the city of York is bringing together different agencies and community groups at a crime summit today.

The meeting at West Offices will focus on community safety, and in particular combating alcohol misuse, domestic abuse and crime.

Coun Linsay Cunningham-Cross, cabinet member for crime and stronger communities, will outline efforts under way to improve safety in York while Detective Chief Constable Tim Madgewick, of North Yorkshire Police, will give the national perspective of community safety.

Findings and feedback from the event will be shared with a meeting in summer of the Safer York Partnership and will help refresh its three-year plan.

Separate Anti-Social Behaviour, Domestic Violence and Hate Crime Strategies work alongside and link with the Council Plan and the Police and Crime Plan.

Coun Cunningham-Cross said: “York is a fantastic city in which to live, work and visit and we will continue to strive to make it as safe and welcoming as possible. Crime continues to fall due to the hard work and dedication of all the partner organisations we work with through the city's Safer York Partnership. We want to continue to build on this excellent partnership working we have in place to continue to make the city safer.

"This summit provides an important opportunity for many across the city to determine what our community safety priorities should be for the next three years and how we will work collectively to achieve them."
