A LONG running project to protect a York street from flooding is almost completed.
Yorkshire Water has announced its scheme to install flood tanks underneath Bootham Park hospital’s playing field, and stop homes in nearby Portland Street flooding, will be finished next month.
The company’s Dominic Cunney said: “This project demonstrates just how committed we are to playing our part in helping to reduce the risk of flooding in previously flood-prone areas.
“We apologise to local residents for the inconvenience they have experienced. Our colleagues have worked as quickly as possible under some challenging conditions but we appreciate that parking restrictions in particular have been really disruptive. We would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation.”
The tanks will hold up to 380,000 litres of storm water to stop bad weather flooding homes in nearby Portland Street, and will be commissioned by the end of April.
The water company’s contractors have pledged to get the road back to normal by Thursday, April 17.
