Watford could be boosted by the return of Almen Abdi for this weekend's Championship clash at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Swiss international played just over an hour of Tuesday’s Herts Senior Cup game against Boreham Wood as he continues to recover from an ongoing foot problem.

Watford say Abdi, who has not been a part of the first-team squad since the end of January, has progressed well after that match and could feature against Wednesday.

Mathias Ranegie is available after serving a three-match suspension while new signing Albert Riera could feature but, at the time of going to press, his move was still awaiting international clearance.

Three players will definitely miss the trip. Fernando Forestieri (foot), Chu-Young Park (thigh) and Essaïd Belkalem (back spasm) have all been ruled out.

Fitz Hall has started to train again after his Achilles injury but he remains a doubt for the game.
