A TOTAL of 28 calls have been made to North Yorkshire Police following fresh appeals into the disappearance of York chef Claudia Lawrence.

Detectives from the police's Major Crimes Unit last week released new details and appeals for information on BBC's Crimewatch to mark the fifth anniversary since Claudia - then 35 - disappeared in 2009.

Twenty calls were received that night, and eight more have been received since, while the appeals posted on the force's facebook page have been viewed by more than 21,600 people.

A special microsite containing all the public appeals was also launched last week, and has been visited more than 26,400 times.

A spokeswoman said investigators were still working through the information and police were not in a position to release any updates on the individual appeals.
