PUPILS and staff at a York school are celebrating after it was praised by inspectors.

Ofsted rated Carr Junior School in Acomb as "a good school with outstanding features", praising the way children "thrive and feel exceptionally safe" and describing the school as "harmonious".

It gave high ratings for pupils' achievement, progress and behaviour, saying: "Their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and the school’s efforts to keep pupils safe and secure are outstanding.

"The inspirational, determined and effective leadership is ensuring that this school is moving forward at a quick pace."

Headteacher Caroline Ryder said the inspection team had credited the school for recent initiatives and its approach to further improving its standards, saying: "I am very proud of the school and feel the report recognises our many strengths incredibly well."
