A CYCLIST suffered a broken nose and facial injuries after he was robbed at knifepoint by thieves in Scarborough.

The 34-year-old man was carrying his orange mountain bike through the alleyway between Colescliffe Road and Oxcliffe in Barrowcliffe at about 1pm on Tuesday (MAR 18), when he was assaulted by two men.

One took the man's wallet from his pocket, and both punched him to the head and face, before one of the suspects threatened him with a knife and both ran from the scene in the direction of Colescliffe Road.

The victim was left with a broken nose and facial injuries, and police have appealed to anyone who saw the attack or the thieves running from the scene.

The first man was white, in his early 20s, about six feet tall with short mousey brown hair and a slightly larger than average build. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a tracksuit with stripes.

The second man was white, in his early 20s, about 5’9” tall, of medium build and was wearing a tracksuit and a hat with ear flaps.

Detective Sergeant Angie Carey of Scarborough CID, said: “This was a violent attack committed in broad day light in the middle of a housing estate where children were playing in the street. Someone must have seen or heard something and I am appealing to anyone with information to come forward. The suspects must be identified and stopped before they commit another offence which could result in someone sustaining more serious injuries."

Anyone with information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, email stephen.monty@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
