MP JULIAN Sturdy has joined the national charity the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to hear about the work of the York Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit at York Hospital.

Headed up by Dr Rebecca Thomas, the cystic fibrosis unit has recently benefited from two newly refurbished rooms with en-suite facilities and treatment room. These improved facilities are particularly crucial due to the risk of potentially fatal infections being passed from one patient to another.

Mr Sturdy was told how, as well as new facilities, people with cystic fibrosis need to be cared for by a multidisciplinary team. The complexity of the disease means patients at York can access specialist doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, dieticians and pharmacists, who are important in helping someone with cystic fibrosis to manage symptoms and maintain their health.
