A HOUSING charity in York has received £3,000 from a local landlords group.

Restore, which was started by a group of Christians in York to provide housing for people who would otherwise be homeless, is one of the largest supported housing providers in the city, with rooms for 26 men and women in seven houses.

The donation was given by the York Residential Landlords Association, which represents and offers advice, support and training to landlords operating in and around the city of York, and actively promotes ‘best practice’ in property management.

The donation was granted by the RLA to help modify the charity’s seventh house, which has just opened to tenants in Foxwood.

Barrie Stephenson, chairman of Restore, said: “We really appreciate this charitable gesture from York Landlords. The organisation takes an active interest in the work we do and matches it in this practical financial way. We are very thankful for their support.”

The charity works with people to help them overcome issues that led them to becoming homeless and employs professionals to provide support for people in the city.

Restore also uses a team of volunteers from local churches to work with the tenants and look after the properties.

A spokesman for Restore said the latest donation would be used to bring the latest property up a high standard for the housing organisation.
