VANDALS have slashed the tyres of eight cars parked in York, prompting a police appeal for witnesses.

Between last Friday and Monday (Feb 14 to 17), the offender or offenders struck in several parts of the city.

Cars targeted were:

  • A Ford Fiesta in Clifford Street
  • A Volkswagen Bora in Victor Street
  • A Nissan Micra and Ford Focus, both in All Saints School car park
  • A Volkswagen Passat in Buckingham Street
  • A Toyota Avensis in East Mount Road
  • A Ford Ka and Toyota Yaris, both in Lower Friargate.

PC Carol Gordon of the York Police, said: “This is a mindless act of criminal damage, which has caused a lot of inconvenience and expense to innocent members of the public.

"The incidents have occurred overnight and we are checking CCTV in the areas as part of our enquiries to try and identify the person responsible.

“However, we would like any members of the public who were in the areas and saw anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles to contact us, along with anyone who has any other information which could assist our investigation.”
