MORE than 400 teenagers from the Army Foundation College took part in the largest parade in Europe.
The junior soldiers graduated from the military training establishment in Harrogate, watched by thousands of friends and family.
Over 81 per cent of the junior soldiers who followed a longer 42-week course marched off the square at the Army Foundation College in Penny Pot Lane to the second phase of their training in the Infantry, Royal Artillery and Royal Armoured Corps.
Meanwhile, the shorter 22-week course had a pass rate of over 90 per cent and those soldiers will now go on to technical training.
A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said: “The courses both provide a unique combination of military basic training and vocational training to the junior soldiers. Following this, the soldiers will progress to the second more specialist phase of their training to ready them for their specific career in the Army.”
Inspecting the parade was Maj Gen James Cowan, General Officer Commanding 3 (UK) Division, who presented prizes and took the salute. Some of the junior soldiers also took non vocational qualifications in English, Maths and ICT as well as driver theory training.
