The everyday lives of some of the shiest creatures on the Yorkshire Wolds are to become national news via a new nature blog for BBC Wildlife Magazine.

Reporting on the secret world of badgers, deer, owls and other wildlife on the Wolds will be wildlife artist Robert E Fuller.

Mr Fuller, of Thixendale, is one of 20 nature enthusiasts around the country selected to make up a panel of reporters bringing real stories about nature from their backyards.

It is hoped that his blog will offer an artist’s perspective on the comings and goings of the country’s most inconspicuous creatures.

Mr Fuller spends much of his time watching and photographing birds and animals in the wild in order to gather new subject matter for his paintings, which are on permanent exhibit at his gallery in Thixendale.

He also works hard at encouraging many species to visit him. So far tawny owls, kestrels and even barn owls regularly visit his garden in exchange for titbits or a home.

Now he will be reporting each week on how these creatures and others living in the valleys on the Wolds are faring.

Already he has reported on the courting season of foxes and on a buzzard feeding station he set up to in in Thixendale in order to get close to these birds of prey.
