This was the scene in Cawood, near Selby, when a lorry carrying a static caravan got stuck in the narrow village streets.

The wide load, on its way to Cawood Holiday Park, had apparently tried to get through the village because nearby Ryther was flooded.

The vehicle disrupted traffic for more than an hour before it was able to move on.

Many drivers had to turn around and find other routes to get round it.

Despite being a well-known bottleneck, Cawood has a lot of through traffic.

Charlotte Miles, daughter of the village postmistress and who works at Cawood Post Office, said: “I have lived here all my life and I’ve never seen anything that size trying to get through.

“It apparently got stuck between a house and parked cars but I don’t know whether it actually touched them.”

A spokesperson for the 12-acre Cawood Holiday Park, said: “Static caravans normally come to us via Tadcaster and Ryther but Ryther is flooded at the moment. I know we had a unit delivered on Monday but I have not heard what happened to it on the way here.”

North Yorkshire Police say they have no record of the incident.
