A MOTORIST accused of causing the death of an elderly couple the day after their diamond wedding has appeared in crown court.

Dennis and Doreen Green, from Strensall, were killed in a crash near Gate Helmsley last April when their Citroen Saxo collided with a Land Rover which Robert Verity was driving.

Verity, 25, of Middlecroft Drive, Strensall, has been charged with causing death by careless driving and made a short appearance at York Crown Court when the dates were set for his plea and case management hearing on May 28 and a trial on August 11.

He entered no plea and was granted unconditional bail until his next court date.
