Tributes have been paid to a past president of a North Yorkshire Rotary Club and a former member of a town’s Round Table.

Martin Leadbetter died in hospital last week following a heart attack while at work in Leeds.

Mr Leadbetter, 59, a chartered surveyor who lived in Thorpe Willoughby, was president of Selby Rotary Club on two recent occasions and also former chairman of Selby Round Table.

He worked for companies in Leeds and York.

Leading the tributes was Rotary president Doug Calvert, who said he first met Martin when he joined Rotary three years ago.

Mr Calvert said he felt the sad loss himself and also for his family. He said: “Martin was a very active member of the club, being heavily involved in fundraising, and volunteered to help me with a couple of events during my year of office.”

Rotary secretary Bill Evans, who had known Martin for ten years, said: “Martin, who was an outstanding Rotarian and Round Table member, was taken away from us very early. He was a good friend and I will miss him.”

“Martin married his wife Dawn six-and-a-half years ago and their parting so soon is a tragedy,” Mr Evans said.

Mr Leadbetter’s funeral will take place at York Crematorium on Monday at 1.40pm, followed by light refreshments at Monk Fryston Hall Hotel.
