Runners gearing up for York 10k
THOUSANDS of people have already signed up to take part in Jane Tomlinson’s York 10K run this summer.
About 2,000 of the 6,000 places for the popular race, which raises tens of thousands for charity, have already been snapped up.
It is the fourth consecutive year the race has taken place in York and previous events have seen thousands of runners, walkers and joggers take part with crowds lining the streets to cheer them on.
The event, will start on Knavesmire on Sunday, August 5, and will this time be sponsored by the Asda Foundation, the charitable arm of the supermarket chain.
The York run, which helps raise cash for The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Martin House Hospice and Macmillan Cancer, along with new partner charities, St Leonard’s Hospice and Bone Cancer Research Trust, has raised £500,000 to date.
The Jane Tomlinson Appeal was set up by Jane, who raised almost £2 million through a series of physical challenges before her death from cancer in 2007.
Her husband, Mike, and their three children have continued the appeal, with the aim of reaching a £5 million target.
Sara Birkinshaw, events director for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, said: “We’re so excited to be bringing the Run For All 10K to York for our fourth year. What’s more, being part of the amazing York800 celebrations this summer along with the buzz of the Olympics means this year's 10K is set to be our best yet. Entries are going fast, so we are encouraging everyone to sign up today.”
Yorkshire Cancer Research is offering people keen to start their fitness regime this year a discount entry to all three Jane Tomlinson Run For All events in York, Leeds and Hull, for £40 throughout January – a saving of £26.
