THE chief executive of York Hospital is limbering up to take part in the Jane Tomlinson 10k to help raise vital funds for patients in the city.

Up to 6,000 people will run around the city this summer in the Jane Tomlinson 10K Run For All event as they aim to raise cash for good causes.

Patrick Crowley, the chief executive of the York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, will be raising funds for the York Teaching Hospital Charity (YTHC) which is devoted to improving the standard of care for patients in the city.

He said: “I have decided to take part in the York 10k to raise as much money as possible for the charity’s general funds so we can support the areas which need it the most.

“The charity plays a vital role in raising funds for the trust to help ensure the best quality of care is provided by funding additional facilities, equipment, research and specialist staff training for the benefit of our patients.

“By taking part in the York 10k, this is a great way of fulfilling a personal challenge while raising money for such a worthwhile cause. I would like to urge people to get involved and support your local hospital charity.”

The run takes place on Sunday July 31 at 10am, starting at York Racecourse, and the YTHC has reserved 51 places and still has 25 places left.

Lucy Watson, fundraising manager, said: “The charity would love to hear from people to reserve them a place and can support them all the way by providing sponsor forms, t-shirts and lots more.”

The charity, which can provide more information and registration forms, is asking for a £25 deposit to ensure places are secured and for minimum sponsorship of £75 per runner to be collected.
