IT is one of the biggest and most important dates in York’s calendar and its organisers need your help.
Ahead of this year’s Run For All 10k, set up in memory of sporting and fundraising legend Jane Tomlinson, organisers are desperately appealing for volunteers to help out on the day.
Jane’s husband, Mike said with so many runners taking part in the August 1 event as many volunteers as possible were needed to help out on the day.
He said: “Help will be required to organise the competitors as they gather to begin the race and again at the end when they finish, not to mention around the course.
“We will also need pre-race volunteers, race marshall volunteers and end of race volunteers.
“I don’t think I have ever seen so many volunteers for one race before as there were last year.
“We had between 450 and 500 –which is one marshall per ten runners.
“This was fantastic and made a real difference to the day. We hope to achieve the same camaraderie for this year’s event.”
In the three weeks since the race was launched, nearly 4,000 out of the allocated 5,000 places have been snapped up.
Although it is hoped 8,000 will take part in the charity race in memory of the sporting and fundraising legend, only 5,000 places have been agreed so far to correspond with health and safety legislation.
Mr Tomlinson warned those who might still want to take part in the August 1 run to register quickly before tickets sold out.
He said: “We would recommend that people do obtain places quickly to avoid disappointment.”
