PLACES for the second Jane Tomlinson’s York 10K run could be snapped up by the end of the month as supporters race to take part.
In only two weeks since the race was officially launched, 3,500 places have already been taken.
Although it is hoped 8,000 will take part in the charity race in memory of the sporting and fundraising legend, only 5,000 places have been agreed so far to correspond with health and safety legislation.
Mr Tomlinson warned those who might still want to take part in the August 1 run to register quickly before tickets sell out.
“It’s fantastic that so many places have gone so quickly and it ensures that there will be an electric atmosphere in York on Yorkshire Day,” he said.
“There’s a huge cross section of abilities which is always the greatest joy of these runs.
“We would recommend that people do obtain places quickly to avoid disappointment.”
Organisers of the event are in talks with the City of York Council to allow an extra 3,000 places in this year’s race.
If the extra places are approved the route, which last year began and ended at Knavesmire and passed York landmarks including the Minster, the River Ouse and the former Terry's factory, will be slightly altered for health and safety reasons.
