2010 Jane Tomlinson York 10K run to be bigger and better

IT IS only a matter of days since the first Jane Tomlinson York 10K run took centre stage – but already hundreds of people have registered an interest in next year’s event.

When the inaugural run in memory of the famous sporting fundraiser was launched in January this year supporters raced to take part, with all the places snapped up in a month.

Now organiser Mike Tomlinson, Jane’s widower, says support for next year’s event – earmarked for August 1 – has already exceeded the high expectations set by Sunday’s event.

“We have had literally hundreds of emails from people pre-registering interest for next year’s race,” he said. “It was unbelievable to see so much interest within just a couple of days. We think it is going bigger and better than ever next year.”

He said people were registering the morning after the event. Interest has been so strong, he said, it may mean places for the run not being advertised.

“The way it is going we may have enough people before the places actually go on sale in January,” he said.

The Run For All event is a sister event to the hugely successful Leeds 10K, which Jane established before her death in 2007.

Mike said he could see the York event becoming equally popular. “Sunday was an absolutely fantastic day. It beat every single expectation we had. Since we launched the race, the support and interest has been fantastic and we are just hoping we have raised lots of money for charity.”

He said with it being so popular the course would have to be slightly altered for 2010 to allow for more than this year’s maximum of 5,000 places.
