RECORD-holding paralympian Hannah Cockroft entertained an audience in York at a celebration for fundraising runners.

The 21-year-old wheelchair sprinter appeared before a crowd at the Hilton Hotel in York on Thursday, many of whom had taken part in the York 10k last month, under the Morrison UtKlity Services Corporate Challenge, organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All.

Along with Tanya Arnold, from BBC’s Look North, Hannah, who took gold in the 100m and 200m T34 races at London 2012, presented trophies and prizes to the fastest firms and individuals who took part, after a question-and-answer session with the audience in which she told the crowd about her passion for sport.

She said: “I just love wheelchair racing, it’s not a job, it’s a hobby. I’m just doing something I enjoy doing. It was clear all the different firms enjoyed competing against each other and they also raised lots of money for some excellent charities.”

Tanya said: “Having seen the times, I’m deeply, deeply impressed.”

A team from sport and leisure firm Hassra took the title of York’s fastest firm, with an average time of 38 minutes 33 seconds, while runners up were a team from Enterprise Rent A Car with 41m 17s, and Garbutt & Elliott with 43m 20s.

Fastest man in the corporate challenge was Dean Winter, from Hassra, at 37m 43s, and fastest woman was Josie Cram, of Banana Kick, who finished in 45.36. Winners of the York 10k Team Challenge race were Walker Crips, who clocked a time of 44.15.
