POLICE have ended their investigation into reports of a motorist grabbing a ten-year-old boy's arm in York.

The alarm was raised after North Yorkshire Police were told the driver of a green Vauxhall had approached a child on Millfield Lane, in Nether Poppleton, on January 24 and took hold of his arm before driving off.

A spokeswoman for the force today said "extensive" enquiries had been carried out and officers are now satisfied the incident was "not as first reported" and did not pose any danger, although no further information has been released.

"Police take all reports of this nature very seriously and will carry out a full investigation if such an incident is reported to them," she said.

"Our advice to young people remains the same - never go with a stranger, never take things from a stranger, never get in a car with a stranger and always tell your parents or carer where you are, who you are with and what time you will be home. If a stranger tries to touch you, tell them no, get home or to a safe place as quickly as you can and tell your parents, carer or someone you trust straight away."
