A CANCER charity is challenging cyclists to take on their own Tour de France-inspired mission to help raise vital funds.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is running its fundraising Coast to Coast cycle ride for the sixth time this June, only two weeks before Chris Froome, Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and their rivals ride parts of the same route.

Marie Curie fundraiser Cheryl Barrett said: “The Coast to Coast challenge is such an enjoyable event, extremely well organised to ensure everyone taking part enjoys a totally rewarding experience.”

Singer-songwriter Alistair Griffin – who is to write the Grand Départ’s official anthem – will join the ride for the third time this year.

A launch event is being held on Saturday, February 15, from 10am at Your Bike Shed cyclists’ café at 148/150 Micklegate.

Anyone thinking of signing up for the challenge on June 20 to 22 will have a chance to find out more and speak to riders who have already ridden Coast to Coast.
