YOUNG cheerleaders from a York dance academy have handed a £600 cheque over to Martin House Children’s Hospice after completing a charity bag pack.
About 50 dancers from Fantasy Cheer and Dance Academy, aged between three and 22, raised the funds at Morrisons, in Foss Islands Road, York, earlier this month.
They handed the money over to Alison Wragg, community fundraiser from the hospice in Boston Spa, at their training night last week.
Jackie Steel, who runs the sessions with her daughter, dance teacher Natalie Lyon, said they were very proud of the girls who decided to help Martin House.
She said: “Last year the hospice asked us to cheer for their marathon runners, which we did, and this year the girls asked if they could do something else for the hospice.”
The cheerleading squad is now preparing for its first competition of the season in Blackpool, while teacher Natalie is about to launch her first ballroom dancing classes in Acomb.
