ARTISTS from across the country will encourage people to explore hidden areas of York next summer through an innovative new visual arts project.

York Curiouser, which runs from June 14 to July 7, will involve new artworks involving a range of media, including light, sound, ceramics, poetry and textiles.

Locations will range from the Fishergate Postern Tower to public gardens and the many snickleways that lace the historic city centre.

The project was initiated, and is being curated by, Hazel Colquhoun, an independent public art commissioning curator, and Lara Goodband, an independent visual art curator. The final weekend of York Curiouser will coincide with the start of the Tour de France Grand Départ in York.

It is also part of the 100-day Yorkshire Festival accompanying the tour, and it is also part of the University of York’s annual Festival of Ideas.

Artists taking part will include writer and poet John Wedgwood Clarke, installation artist Susanne Davies, textile artist Sally Greaves-Lord, Janet Hodgson, and Heinrich & Palmer.
