TWO York men have appeared in court over an armed robbery at a Clifton convenience store.

Twenty-one year old Luke Russell and 18 year old Jake Nolan have been charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article.

The two men, of 86 Cromer Street, Clifton, spoke only to confirm their names and entered no plea in the short hearing at York Magistrate's Court this morning.

Prosecuting solicitor Martin Sleights told the magistrates that Russell and Nolan allegedly stole £1897.48 from the McColl's shop on Crichton Avenue this weekend.

They were both alleged to have gone into the McColl's store on Crichton Street, Clifton, just 300 yards away from their home, at about 9.30pm on Saturday. They are said to have had scarves covering their faces, and threatened two shop workers with knives, he added.

The two men's defence solicitor Neil Cutte made no application for bail and both were remanded in custody until February 3 when they will appear at York Crown Court.
