AN APPEAL has gone out to track down the vandals who daubed walls in part of York with ugly graffiti.

Police have condemned the damage as “utterly pointless”, and urged anyone who recognises the designs to contact them.

These four spraypainted “tags” were found on walls in The Groves on Wednesday evening, but it is not known when they were painted.

One of the tags appears to read “Zeus”, while the other three look to be in a similar style, using the same coloured paint.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “These are acts of utterly pointless and mindless vandalism which do nothing but spoil the look of the area. As these are highly distinctive ‘tags’.

"It is highly likely that sombody will recognise them and know those responsible. Anyone who can identify the vandals is urged to contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone York police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111, quoting reference 12140007911.
