IT’S a case of new year, new look for Wilberfoss Junior Football Club under-10s.

The East Yorkshire club’s junior side have netted a fresh kit from the Co-operative.

The team, pictured right, which plays in the York Mitchell Sports League, were given the strip as part of the Co-operative’s aim to encourage more children to get involved in sport and enjoy active and healthier lifestyles.

Paul Gibney, a parent of two players at Wilberfoss, spotted a competition on the Co-operative’s website and entered the monthly draw for a new kit.

“We are thrilled,” said Gibney. “Running football teams doesn’t come cheap and that’s why I nominated the team for the kit, which I hope will help them achieve their goals.

“The kit was presented to the U10s coach and was met with a loud cheer from the boys when they heard the news. I would like to thank the Co-operative. It’s opportunities like these that really help junior teams.”

The Co-operative’s grassroots programme consists of a number of projects, including the Win A Kit competition.

Meanwhile, the club will stage their annual fundraising pig racing event at Wilberfoss Sports & Social Club on Saturday, February 1, starting at 6.30pm.

All money raised will go towards buying equipment for the club.

To cover the cost of running the event, the club are seeking sponsors for each of the eight races at £25 per race.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a race should email sallygib@supanet.com

People can also buy pigs for £3, with each race-winning owner receiving £10. Bets can also be placed on the night.
