AN eight-year-old girl is trying to bring joy to those in need by collecting food donations at school – all inspired by Band Aid.

Jayde Langan collected donations at Haxby Road School last week, and handed them in to the York Foodbank at Burton Stone Community Centre on Saturday.

Jayde said: “I just wanted to do it so they can have enough food and so people can have a happy Christmas.”

Her mum, Chrissie Langan, said: “She was inspired by the Band Aid song, Do They Know It’s Christmas. She’s only eight, so this is the first year where she’s really understood the meaning of it.”

Jayde received help and support from her friends, family and school head teacher Mr Ludlow.

Her mum said: “It was a quite big boxful of food. I’m sure she could have got more, but she only decided to do it last week.”

Jayde is a serial fundraiser, having taken part in the Race for Life, Stand up to Cancer and Children in Need.

“She’s already planning what she’s going to do for next year’s Children in Need!” her mum said.
