THIS year’s Festival of Angels in York attracted record visitor numbers, city leaders have said.
Last Saturday and Sunday, a footfall-counter on Parliament Street was activated 109,316 times – up 38 per cent on the equivalent weekend in 2012. Thousands flocked to the Festival of Angels to view the ice sculptures and refreshments from local businesses.
The figures follow record numbers on the weekend of St Nicholas Fayre and were welcomed by council leaders.
Coun Sonja Crisp, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism said: “The festival has evolved into a wonderful collaboration between the council, city centre businesses and volunteers, bringing welcome magic to our streets for visitors and residents of all ages to enjoy.”
Coun leader James Alexander said: “The Festival of Angels wows the crowds and continues to grow, with more streets taking part each year.”
