POLICE appealed today for witnesses to come forward following an accident in York in which an elderly pedestrian suffered serious injuries.
The 91-year-old man, who was today in a stable condition at York Hospital, was crossing Burton Stone Lane yesterday when he was struck by a car.
Police said the accident happened at about 4.20pm near York City football ground.
"The collision involved a silver Mazda 6 car, travelling towards Bootham," said a spokesman for North Yorkshire Police.
The Mazda was driven by a York woman, who was left uninjured but shaken by the incident. The road was closed for several hours afterwards.
Traffic Sergeant Andy Morton, of the Force’s Roads Policing Group, said: “The witnesses I need to trace are a man described as Asian and two men with pedal cycles who didn’t speak English.
"They assisted the injured man at the scene but left before police arrival. I urge them to come forward as they may have vital information that could help my investigation.
“I am also appealing to anyone who either witnessed the collision or saw either the Mazda or the pedestrian prior to the incident and ask them to get in touch.”
