GOVERNMENT funding to improve safety on a section of East Yorkshire’s busiest road has been welcomed by the region’s MP.
Work on a new roundabout at the A1079 and Holme Road junction in Market Weighton is expected to start next year after £1 million was secured from Westminster’s “pinch-point” fund, following a long campaign by residents, local councillors and East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight.
“These works will bring real safety improvements to the junction and will also lead to a significant improvement in traffic flow around Market Weighton, benefiting both local residents and businesses in East Yorkshire who use the A1079 as queuing and congestion are cut,” said Sir Greg, who recently met transport minister Robert Goodwill, the MP for Scarborough, to discuss the issue.
“This is great news for the area as it will make the road much safer.”
