PARENTS and pupils at a York primary have staged a Christmas fair to help raise funds to improve their school playground.

Children at Fishergate Primary School were invited to bring in unwanted items, from bric-a-brac and books to dressing-up clothes, as a form of payment for taking part in a non-uniform day, with the goods then sold on the many stalls at the event.

Steve Evans, the school’s site manager, got into the spirit of the occasion by donning his best fancy dress before joining the crowds to admire the wares on offer.

Emma Butterworth, school treasurer, said they were still counting the proceeds from what has become an annual fixture in Fishergate’s calendar. She said: “It was very busy, so we would like to say a big thank you for people for coming and supporting it. Our main fundraising project is the school play ground.”
