A YORK man has been fined more than £950 after dumping a three-piece suite near a main road in North Yorkshire.
Jamie Robinson, 23, of Martins Court, was prosecuted by Hambleton District Council for flytipping on a quiet road at Overton, off the A19, and admitted the offence when he appeared before Northallerton magistrates.
He also left other rubbish at the site. Coun Brian Phillips, the council’s cabinet member for customer services, said: “We take flytipping seriously and the courts are backing us up.
“These people believe they can pollute our district with their waste and just get away with it. On this occasion, it cost a man £954, but the annual cost to our ratepayers is £17,000. Hambleton is a beautiful area and should not be ruined by selfish and often profiteering individuals.”
Coun Phillips said anybody who is paid to dispose of waste should be checked for a valid licence and provide a receipt with their address and vehicle details.
