STUDENTS from the University of York have helped City of York Council create new videos to promote safer cycling.
The video is part of the i-Travel York initiative, and features an alien cycling along some of York’s well-known cycle tracks, giving tips and advice to cyclists along the way, including riding with lights, locking bikes securely and riding only on roads and designated cycle paths.
Coun Dave Merrett said: “With the announcement of Le Grand Depart, even more people are choosing to cycle, as this is a low-cost form of transport, but also a leisure activity too.
“It’s really important that we can help provide information so that new cyclists to York can learn how to cycle in a safe and courteous manner – so that everyone can enjoy cycling.”
A new and free online i-Travel York Journey Planner forms part of the project to help residents, businesses and visitors get around York more easily, and is available at itravelyork.info
