A MAJOR police operation will take place in North Yorkshire today, with scores of officers on the streets to help crack down on crime across the county.

In Operation Hawk the road crime team, road policing group and the firearms support unit will monitor the roads around the region looking for known and suspected offenders, while members of the safer neighbourhood teams and CID officers will target suspects in cities, towns and villages around the county.

Assistant chief constable Paul Kennedy said: “This day of action, which is the first in a series as part of Operation Hawk, will further emphasise our cast-iron commitment to bring offenders to justice and disrupt their activity with the use of about 150 additional officers and staff to help us target and arrest suspects.”
