THREE men have been arrested in connection with the death of a 23-year-old man at a caravan park near Selby.

Police were called to The Ranch Caravan Park in Cliffe in the early hours of Sunday, to reports of what detectives called “the sudden and unexplained” death of a 23-year-old man.

Paramedics and officers found the man unconscious in one of the caravans at just after 3am, and made repeated attempts to revive him before he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they believe the man may have been assaulted at the caravan site on Saturday night.

A police spokesman said three local men, aged 27, 30 and 49, had been arrested and interviewed in connection with the death, and have since been released on police bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Maria Taylor, who is leading the investigation, said: “I understand that there was a large number of people at the caravan park on the evening of Saturday, November 30.

“If you were present and have not yet come forward, I urge you to contact the police straight away, as you may have vital information that could help my investigation. I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the man being assaulted or noticed a disturbance and urge them to get in touch.”

The caravan park was cordoned off throughout Sunday and remains cordoned off today to allow investigations to take place, and detectives have repeated their plea to members of the public to stay away from the site for the time being.

Officers investigating the death have also urged anyone who witnessed the assault or anyone with information to contact them as soon as possible on 101, or phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
