POLICE cordoned off part of a York shopping centre after a man collapsed and died.

Officers are now trying to piece together the last movements of the 51-year-old man for a report to the coroner.

The alarm was raised at about 3.30am on Saturday after the man was found on the ground in Hurricane Way at Clifton Moor.

He was certified dead a short time later by medical staff.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances.

The man is believed to live locally.

A force spokesman said: “North Yorkshire Police were notified at about 3.30am on Saturday of a collapsed man in Hurricane Way, Clifton Moor, York.

"Unfortunately, a short time later, the man, who is believed to be aged 51 and local, was pronounced dead by medical staff.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“However, the police are continuing to identify the man’s last known movements to assist a report to the coroner.”
