Prime Minister David Cameron. urged to scrap FOI restrictions
8:23am Thursday 31st October 2013 in News
A CALL for the Government to scrap proposals which would restrict Freedom of Information requests has been made to Prime Minister David Cameron.
The Press’ news editor Gavin Aitchison is among those who signed a open letter to Mr Cameron saying the plans, which would make it easier for public bodies to block FOI requests on cost grounds, would harm openness and transparency.
The letter’s signatories also include British Institute of Human Rights director Stephen Bowen, Campaign for Freedom of Information director Maurice Frankel, and representatives of the Society of Editors, the Newspaper Society, the Public Interest Research Centre, democracy groups, charities and national newspapers.
