AN author who penned a book about a Walton war hero will be signing copies for residents on Friday.

Carole McEntee-Taylor wrote her latest book - Herbert Columbine VC - to chronicle the life of the Walton soldier who died in the First World War.

Private Columbine sacrificed himself to save his fellow soldiers and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross medal for his bravery.

The book was released earlier this year and Mrs McEntee-Taylor has pledged her cut of the proceeds as author to an ongoing effort by residents to get a statue of Private Columbine built.

Anyone who wants their copy of the book signed can bring it to the Columbine Statue Fund Shop on Walton High Street on Friday from 3pm.

A handful of copies will be available at the shop to buy on the day.
