A CYCLIST has been killed in an accident involving three cars.

The 38-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened at around 5.20pm yesterday on the B1224 York Road near Wetherby.

The road was closed for more than seven hours.

One of the cars did not stop and police urge its driver to come forward.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said he was riding from Bickerton towards Wetherby with a grey Vauxhall Astra and a black Ford Fiesta behind him, when all three vehicles were overtaken by a black Vauxhall Corsa around 120 metres from Spring Lane.

The spokesman said as the Corsa passed the traffic, the cyclist collided with the Astra and Fiesta.

The spokesman said: "The Corsa failed to stop at the scene of the collision and officers are urging its driver to come forward and help with their enquiries."

The road was closed while officers investigated, before reopening at around 12.40am today.
