Hiscox submits formal plans

A PLANNING application has formally been submitted for Hiscox’s new £19 million offices in York.
The global insurer, which announced last year plans for a new flagship office in the city, has undertaken two public consultations in the lead up to submitting its plans for the Hungate site.
In a move set to bring 500 jobs to York, the purpose-built office application has been accompanied by a request for outline planning permission for a second neighbouring development for flexible retail and leisure use on the ground floor, with a dual use of office or hotel on the upper levels.
The application also includes plans for new landscaped public areas with lighting and seating, as well as pedestrian and cycle paths.
Steve Langan, managing director for Hiscox UK & Ireland, said: “We are hugely excited to have a significant presence here in York and have received overwhelmingly positive feedback on our plans from local people so far.
“We met more than 150 local business owners and residents during our public consultation events this summer, and the feedback from these events really helped shape our final plans.
“We now look forward to the determination of the application in due course, but we anticipate that this will be by the end of this year. In the meantime we continue to grow into our temporary offices at Mallard House, next door to what will be our permanent site, and prepare to embark on the next phase of recruitment in early 2014.”
The plans are scheduled to go before City of York Council’s planning committee on December 20.
