SOUNDS from Africa rang around a York shopping centre as a visiting choir entertained shoppers.
The Pearl Of Africa Children’s Choir, from Uganda, is visiting Ryedale School for the third time in four years as part of a UK tour, giving staff and pupils the chance to sing with them and hear their tales of life in their home country.
The choir, which raises funds to improve Ugandan health, welfare and education, are spending six nights in Ryedale before leaving on Wednesday.
Their performances included a busking session at the Coppergate Centre in York, following a service at York Minster, and Saturday saw the choir on musical duty in the stable courtyard at Castle Howard.
They have staged assembly performances and workshops, and tonight will go through their repertoire in a public concert at Malton School Hall, with another planned for tomorrow night at All Saints’ Church in Helmsley.
Ryedale School headteacher Mark McCandless said: “It’s a fantastic cultural opportunity for our pupils and staff.”
