Man arrested in cross-border crime op
3:03pm Saturday 12th October 2013 in News
POLICE have arrested a suspected "cross-border" burglar in North Yorkshire.
A 40-year-old man from Redcar was driving along the A171 between Whitby and Scarborough at 11.55pm yesterday when officers from North Yorkshire Police's roads policing group stopped him at Burniston.
He was wanted in connection with a two-in-one burglary at a house in Hutton Rudby between September 6 and 22, where jewellery and electrical goods as well as a people carrier were stolen. The man is now in custody and being questioned.
Anybody with information about the crime should phone Jason Roper on 101 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The arrest was made as part of Operation Hawk, North Yorkshire Police's crackdown on criminals travelling into the region from other areas and rural crime. Its leader, Assistant Chief Constable Paul Kennedy, said it was intended to put "maximum pressure" on cross-border criminals and show them they were "in for a rough ride if they venture into North Yorkshire".
