Crime commissioner voices concern over 'lost evidence' case
9:21am Saturday 12th October 2013 in News
NORTH Yorkshire police and crime commissioner Julia Mulligan will be looking into events that led to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropping a charge of attempted murder against Michael Bennison, 28, of no fixed address, and accepting a plea to a lesser charge of wounding.
She said: “This is clearly an issue of concern, and I will be making sure I get a full and frank explanation from the chief constable.”
Newcastle Crown Court heard that North Yorkshire Police had lost crucial DNA evidence.
