Volunteers have made more progress transforming a playground for families and children in York.

The team, which included a group from Huntington School, created a willow den and varnished children’s artwork, as well as creating coffee tables, and installing eight benches at the Bell Farm adventure playground.

Helen Green, a volunteering project manager for York Cares, said yesterday: “It was lovely this morning but the wind has picked up this afternoon.

“It’s going really well though, and we’ve got a lot of hord workers here. There’s a lot of concrete and topsoil all over the place. We’ve installed benches and a scooter play area with low level ramps on a trail for young children.

“Everyone’s been working really hard and really grafted for their three hours, and I think we’re all just really pleased to be doing something for the children.”

The project is supported by Evora Construction, Northern Rail, City of York Council, Bell Farm Management Committee and scores of volunteers from companies around the city.
